Is That Netcare Free Nursing Programme Real? How to Spot the Scam

Netcare has issued a scam alert. There is no free nursing programme through Facebook or WhatsApp. Here's how Netcare actually recruits student nurses.

In short: Netcare does not offer free nursing training through Facebook or WhatsApp. The only legitimate way to apply for Netcare nursing programmes is through KR Education at kreducationsa.com. The real application costs R490 (non-refundable). Scam posts circulating on Facebook promise "Free Nursing Training 2026" with a R7,040 monthly allowance and direct applicants to third-party websites and WhatsApp numbers. Netcare has issued official scam alerts across multiple hospital Facebook pages. If you want to verify any Netcare opportunity, call their HR line at 086 022 5547.

You see a post on Facebook. "Netcare Education: Free Nursing Training Programme 2026." Monthly allowance of R7,040. Closing date is next week. You just need to click the link and apply via WhatsApp.

For someone who wants to become a nurse, this looks like a real opportunity. Netcare is one of the largest private healthcare groups in South Africa. They do train nurses. The post uses their logo and branding.

It is a scam. Netcare has confirmed it. Africa Check has debunked it. And this is not the first time. The same pattern appeared in 2019 and keeps resurfacing.

How This Scam Works

The scam follows a predictable sequence.

A Facebook page posts an advert using Netcare's name and logo. The post promises free nursing training with a generous monthly allowance (the January 2026 version offered R7,040). It includes a closing date to create urgency.

The post directs you to a third-party website or a WhatsApp number. Not to netcare.co.za. Not to kreducationsa.com. A completely separate link that has nothing to do with Netcare.

Once you engage, the scammers collect your personal information: ID number, address, matric certificate, banking details. Some versions ask you to pay a "registration fee" or "uniform deposit" via EFT or to a cell phone number.

You never hear from Netcare. The programme does not exist. Your information is either sold or used to open accounts in your name.

Red Flags in the Scam Post

  • The programme is described as "free." Real Netcare nursing applications cost R490 through KR Education.
  • The post includes only a cell phone number for enquiries, not Netcare's official landline (086 022 5547).
  • Applicants are directed to a third-party website or WhatsApp, not to kreducationsa.com.
  • The closing date creates artificial urgency ("apply before Friday").
  • The post asks for banking details during the application process.
  • Interviews are arranged outside Netcare facilities.
  • If you call the number provided, they claim "the landline is out of order."

How Netcare Actually Recruits Student Nurses

Netcare Education is real. They do train nurses. But the process looks nothing like what the scam posts describe.

All online nursing applications go through KR Education at kreducationsa.com. KR Education is Netcare's official logistics partner for student recruitment. This is the only legitimate online application channel.

The application fee is R490 (non-refundable), paid to KR Education. If you pass the initial screening, you pay an additional R350 for a pre-selection assessment. The pass mark is 70% in each section for direct entry.

Netcare Education has six campuses: Sandton (head office), Johannesburg (Auckland Park), Pretoria (Centurion), KwaZulu-Natal (Durban North), Eastern Cape (Gqeberha), and Western Cape (Bellville).

Minimum requirements include a National Senior Certificate (matric) with at least 50% in English and Life Science (Biology).

How to Verify a Netcare Opportunity

Step 1: Check if the application directs you to kreducationsa.com. If it sends you anywhere else, it is not legitimate.

Step 2: Call Netcare's HR verification line at 086 022 5547. They can confirm whether the opportunity exists.

Step 3: Check Netcare's official website at netcare.co.za/Careers/Education-and-training.

Step 4: Search for the Facebook page that posted the advert. Real Netcare hospital pages are verified. Scam pages are usually new, have few followers, and post only job adverts.

You can also contact KR Education directly via WhatsApp at +27 645 083 892 or call +27 872 552 250 to confirm any application you've seen.

If You Already Applied Through a Fake Post

If you shared personal documents (ID, matric certificate, banking details) with a scam operation, take these steps now.

Step 1: Contact your bank immediately. If you shared banking details, ask them to flag your account for potential fraud.

Step 2: Report the incident to SAPS. You can email cybercrime@saps.gov.za or visit your local police station to open a case.

Step 3: Place a fraud alert on your credit profile through the South African Fraud Prevention Service (SAFPS).

Step 4: Report the Facebook post. Tap the three dots on the post, select "Report," and choose "Scam or fraud."

You are not at fault. These scams use real company branding and professional-looking adverts. They are designed to deceive.

Why This Scam Keeps Coming Back

Nursing is one of the few professions in South Africa with genuine demand. Netcare is a trusted brand. The combination of real demand and a trusted name makes this scam effective.

Netcare has warned the public repeatedly. Multiple hospital Facebook pages have posted alerts. The Citizen reported on a Netcare Sunninghill Hospital warning in January 2026. Africa Check published a formal debunk on 28 January 2026. Yet the posts keep circulating because Facebook groups share them faster than they can be taken down.

The pattern is not new. Africa Check documented a similar fake Netcare job advert campaign back in 2019. Scammers recycle what works.
