Terms of use

The rules for using the CheckJobScam website and its Android app. Both are free.

Last updated: August 2026

1

Who we are

CheckJobScam is a free South African service for checking whether a job offer is real. These terms cover this website and the CheckJobScam Android app on Google Play. By using either, you accept them.

2

What the service does

We check job offers against known scam patterns, publish what people report, list government vacancies from the weekly DPSA circular, and give you free tools to fill in a Z83, build a CV and write a cover letter.

We are not a recruiter and we do not offer jobs. We are not connected to any employer, recruitment agency or government department named on this site.

3

What we do not promise

Our answer is guidance, not a verdict. We cannot promise that every scam is caught, that a real job is never flagged, that a risk score is right, or that anything we publish is complete and current.

Check anything important yourself, against the employer's own website, the CIPC register, or the department advertising the post. A clean result from us is not proof that an offer is genuine.

4

We are not advisers or police

Nothing here is legal, financial or career advice. We do not investigate, we cannot recover money, and we cannot act against anyone. If you have lost money, report it to the South African Police Service.

5

Your account

The app needs a Google account. Keep it secure, use it yourself, and do not impersonate anyone. We can suspend or remove an account that breaks these terms.

You can delete your account at any time. See the privacy policy.

6

What you post

You keep ownership of what you post. You give us permission to show it in the app and on this site.

Post only what you can stand behind. Do not name someone as a scammer without reason, do not post another person's private details, and do not post anything false, abusive or unlawful. You are responsible for what you post and for the consequences of it.

We can remove anything, at any time, without giving a reason, and we do not have to check what is posted before it appears.

7

Using it properly

Do not scrape it, resell it, break it, or use it to run a scam. Do not submit anyone else's personal information without a reason to.

8

Our content

Our writing, tools and design are ours. Government circulars and company names belong to whoever they belong to. Links to other sites are not endorsements and we are not answerable for what is on them.

9

Liability

As far as South African law allows, we are not liable for any loss arising from using this service, including money lost to a scam we did not catch, decisions made on our analysis, or errors in what we publish.

You use it at your own risk. Our total liability is capped at what you paid us, which is nothing. You agree to cover us against claims arising from your own use of the service or from what you post.

10

Changes and governing law

We may change these terms and will update the date above. These terms are governed by South African law, and the courts of South Africa have jurisdiction.

If any part is unenforceable, the rest still applies.
