Search a phone number, WhatsApp number, email address or company name against job scams reported here by South Africans. If somebody else has already been caught by the person contacting you, the answer takes seconds.
What you can search
A mobile or WhatsApp number, including one with a foreign dialling code. An email address. Or a company or recruiter name as it was given to you. Partial matches work, so you do not need the number formatted exactly as it was reported.
What it means if a number is not found
Not much on its own. This list holds numbers South Africans have reported, and a scammer changes number often, so a new one has no history yet. A clean result is not clearance. If the message asks you for money, uses a free Gmail address for a large company, or offers a job with no interview, treat it as a scam whether or not the number appears here. Paste the message into the checker and it will read it for you.
Where these reports come from
People who were contacted. Reporting a number adds it here for the next person, and the entities reported most often get a page of their own setting out what was reported. Nothing is charged and nothing is shared with the person you report.
If you have already paid
Phone your bank immediately and ask them to attempt a recall, then open a case at any SAPS station: you need a case number to take it further. The full steps are here, including what to do if you sent your ID document rather than money.
