Do I need a cover letter for a South African job application?
For online portals like Shoprite, Pick n Pay or Pnet, usually not. Those ask structured questions instead. A cover letter matters when you are handing a CV in at a store, emailing a recruiter directly, or applying for a learnership or government post, because it gives the reader a reason to remember you and to call you for an interview.
Where do I get the job posting to paste in?
Copy the job description from wherever you found the role: Pnet, Careers24, CareerJunction, LinkedIn, Indeed, Gumtree, a company careers page, or even a Facebook post. The generator mirrors the exact wording and skills from that job description, which is what makes the letter specific to that job instead of generic.
