Grade 12 or an equivalent appropriate qualification recognised by SAQA. A valid driver's licence code C1/code 10 minimum. Professional Driving Permit (PrDP is required). Experience in driving and operating specialised vehicles, agricultural machinery and equipment. Skills And Competencies: Knowledge of driving and operating specialised vehicles, agricultural machinery and equipment, including basic inspection and maintenance procedures. Knowledge of occupational health and safety requirements applicable to vehicle and machinery operation. Ability to read, write and maintain basic operational records, interpret operating and safety manuals, identify and report defects, and work independently as well as part of a team. Good communication skills, good eyesight, and the physical ability to safely perform the duties of the post.
Duties
Operate departmental vehicles, specialised equipment and agricultural machinery in accordance with prescribed procedures and safety requirements. Transport departmental officials, work teams, agricultural inputs, materials and equipment, including loading and offloading where required. Conduct routine inspections, basic maintenance and condition checks of vehicles, machinery and equipment, and report defects. Maintain accurate logbooks, trip authorisations. inspection checklists and other prescribed record. Assist with agricultural infrastructure, production support and the operation of machinery and equipment at departmental facilities and project sites. Detect and report mechanical faults and facilitate the repair of defective vehicles, machinery and equipment. Comply with departmental policies, procedures, occupational health and safety requirements, and applicable legislation.
