Grade 12, previous driving experience, particularly with government, field-service or heavy vehicles-minimum 2 years working experience as a driver. A valid driver's licence code C1/code 10 minimum. Professional Driving Permit (PrDP is required). Skills And Competencies: Equipment operation and care, Physical inspection and safety compliance Problem-solving and basic mechanical insight, Communication and teamwork, Record-keeping and time management. Must be multilingual (ability to speak English will be an added advantage). Should be able to read and write. Ability to work independently and in multidisciplinary teams. Willingness to travel extensively and work after hours when required. Basic knowledge of occupational health, safety and hygiene/biosecurity.
Duties
Drive the veterinary mobile clinic vehicle safely to farms, villages, dip tanks and other service points. Transport veterinary and para-veterinary and support staff. Transport veterinary equipment, medicines, vaccines, personal protective clothing and other supplies. Assist with loading and off-loading equipment and supplies. Ensure that equipment is secured safely during transportation. Conduct daily vehicle inspections and check fuel, tyres, oil, water, lights and brakes. Report mechanical faults and arrange servicing or repairs through the appropriate channels. Keep the vehicle clean, hygienic and in good working condition. Assist with setting up and packing up the mobile clinic at service locations. Help maintain cleanliness and biosecurity of the mobile clinic and equipment. Assist with transporting animal specimens/samples to laboratories according to instructions. Ensure medicines, vaccines and other veterinary supplies are transported safely and appropriately. Assist with maintaining the cold chain for vaccines, where this forms part of the assigned duties. Maintain accurate vehicle logbooks, trip sheets, mileage and fuel records. Follow approved routes and schedules and report delays or incidents. Observe road-traffic, occupational-health and safety regulations. Safeguard government property, equipment and supplies entrusted to the mobile clinic. Perform other reasonable duties assigned by the supervisor or veterinary services manager.
