Requirements

An appropriate recognized National Diploma (NQF Level 6) in Occupational Health and Safety/ Degree in Environmental Health or Safety Management.1-2 years’ experience in the Occupational Health and Safety field. Extensive knowledge of Occupational Health & Safety Act 85 of 1993, Public Finance Management Act 1 of 1999, Compensation of Occupational Injuries and Diseases Act 130 of 1993, Disaster Management Act 57 of 2002, and the EHW strategic Framework. Excellent communication and problem-solving skills. A valid driver’s license and SAMTRAC will be an added advantage.

Duties

Coordinate, monitor, advice and render health and safety administration. Monitor OHS compliance. Conducting risk assessments, identifying hazards, and implementing appropriate control measures. Conduct OHS inspections and audits. Facilitate prompt response and resolution of all faults identified. Monitor and support regions compliance with OHS requirements. Coordinate OHS trainings and awareness programme within the department. Monitor the functionality of the OHS Committee at the regions. Provide administrative and secretariat support to OHS committees, coordinating meetings, and ensuring the implementation of resolutions. Facilitate health and safety training, awareness campaigns, and emergency preparedness initiatives, while promoting a culture of safety across all levels of the organisation. Ensure compliance of emergency equipment. Prepare and implement the emergency/evacuation drills in the Department. Liaise with facilities management to conduct building inspections and address hygiene related matters. Investigate incidents, accidents, and near misses, compile reports, and recommend preventative and corrective actions to mitigate risks. Report all injuries on duty and Occupational disease to the Compensation Fund office. Facilitate and coordinate the development of occupational health and safety policies, procedures and guidelines. N.B. All shortlisted candidates will be required to complete a relevant competency exercise.
