Minimum educational qualification: Basic R425 qualification (i.e. diploma/degree in nursing) or equivalent qualification (R683) that allows registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Professional Nurse. A post-basic nursing qualification with a duration of at least 1 year accredited with the SANC in Medical and Surgical Nursing Science: Critical Care Nursing: Child or Medical and Surgical Nursing Science: Critical Care Nursing: General. OR 4-year bachelor’s degree in nursing (R174) or equivalent qualification (R171 plus R1497) that allows registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Professional Nurse. A post graduate diploma (R635) accredited in Critical Care Nursing (Adult) or Critical Care Nursing (Child) Registration with a professional council: Registration with the SANC as a Professional Nurse. Experience: Grade 1: A minimum of 4 years appropriate/recognisable experience in nursing after registration as Professional Nurse with the SANC in General Nursing. Grade 2: A minimum of 14 years appropriate/recognisable experience in nursing after registration as Professional Nurse with the SANC in General Nursing. At least 10 years of the period referred to above must be appropriate/recognisable experience after obtaining the 1-year post-basic qualification or post-graduate diploma in the relevant specialty. Inherent requirements of the job: Willingness to work shifts, overtime, day and night duty, weekends, public holidays and standby duty to meet the operational requirements of the unit. Competencies (knowledge/skills): Knowledge of relevant legislation and policies of the Department of Health Western Cape. Skills to plan, organise & coordinate the service by analysing, problem solving & decision making. Leadership towards the realisation of strategic goals and objectives of the Intensive and High care unit.
Duties
Use expert knowledge and skills to ensure quality appropriate adult and paediatric patient care are met and delivered by the nursing and clinical team including identification and prevention of risks. Participate in quality improvement implementation by providing effective direction, supervision and education of nursing personnel as a Professional Nurse in the Intensive/High care unit, according to audits and appropriate data. Support the unit manager/Operational manager in the co-ordination, organising and control over the activities, personnel, equipment, and stores in the unit to utilize human, material and physical resources efficiently and effectively. Maintain professionalism and the display of core values of the Department of Health WCG in the execution of duties, while practising within the legislation, regulations and protocols applicable to the public service.
