The successful candidate should have Grade 12 Certificate plus a National Diploma / Degree (NQF Level 6/7 in Environmental Health/ Occupational Safety Management or relevant qualification. A minimum of 2 - 3 years’ experience in OHS environment. Valid driver’s license. Skills: Problem Solving. Negotiation. Decision making, Resilience. Self-Motivation. Verbal communication & written communications. Interpersonal skills. Customer service. Knowledge: Relevant Public Service Legislation. GDSACR and GPG policies. Project management. PFMA, Treasury Regulation, PSA, PSR, etc. Change Management. Report writing. Facilitation skills. Research Methodologies. Employee Health and Wellness related. Registration with professional bodies (SAIOSH/SAIOH/ HPCSA).
Duties
Secure approval of Occupational health and safety policies, procedures in line with the Occupational health and safety act (OHS) requirements and safety guidelines and the OHS standards. Implement policies and procedures pertaining to occupational health and safety (OHS) to ensure that employees’ performance is managed and monitored and skills development take place. Communicating the approved policies, systems and procedures to employees. Coordinate training for all appointed statutory appointments. Conduct workplace inspections. Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of policies, procedures that are in place. Monitor Statutory appointments are in place. Establish Occupational health and safety (OHS) Committee as per the legislation. Uphold the stipulations of the Act through the performance of health and safety committee. Coordinate awarenesses to employees on SOPs of OHS. Assess maintenance of electrical and machinery equipment. Conduct workplace Hazard Identification Risk Assessment. Coordinate SHERQ training needs. Coordinate SHERQ risk register. Monitor and evaluate disaster departments. Develop minutes for OHS Meeting. Develop action plan from the meeting. Injury on Duty Knowledge and understanding of the Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases Act (COIDA), Conduct investigation of reported near misses, occupational diseases and injury on duty. Compile an investigation preliminary report and finalization of the cases reported.
