In short: Carrier Hub is a real organisation whose name is being misused by scammers to post fake job offers. It does not recruit through random WhatsApp numbers and never asks you to pay a fee to apply. Any offer demanding money is a scam using its name.

Red flags reported, and what each one means

Asked for an upfront "registration", "admin", or "background check" fee

No South African employer may charge you to apply, be interviewed, or be hired. Registration fees, admin fees and "background check" fees are the most common way money is taken in a job scam, and the amount is usually small enough to seem reasonable. If you are asked for one, the job is not real.

Asked for payment via PEP, PostNet, Spar, Cashsend, or eWallet

Payment by PEP, PostNet, Spar money transfer, Cashsend or eWallet is asked for because it is almost impossible to reverse and needs no bank account in the receiver's real name. A legitimate employer has no reason to be paid this way, or at all.

Offered a job with no interview ("you are hired")

Being hired without an interview is not good luck. It removes the step where you would ask questions, and it is used to move you quickly to the part where you pay or hand over documents.

Promised an unrealistic salary for the work involved

A salary far above the market rate for the work is the bait. R40,000 a month for data entry with no experience is not a job offer; it is the reason you are expected to overlook everything else.

Poor grammar, odd capitalisation, or excessive emojis

Odd capitalisation, heavy emoji use and broken grammar in a corporate offer suggest it was not written by the company being named. Treat it as a reason to verify, not proof on its own.

How this scam works, explained

These guides cover the same tactics in detail: how the approach is made, what the money is asked for, and how the real organisation actually recruits.

How to stay safe

  • A real employer pays you. You never pay to be hired.
  • Verify the company on CIPC before sharing your ID or paying anything.
  • Apply only through official careers pages, not WhatsApp numbers from a post.
  • If you already paid, report it to your bank and SAPS immediately.
