Requirements

Basic R425 qualification i.e. Diploma / Degree in Nursing or equivalent qualification. Registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Professional Nurse. A minimum of 8 years appropriate experience after registration as a Professional Nurse with the SANC of which at least 3 years should be at a managerial level. Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team. Knowledge of PFMA, Batho Pele Principles, Patient Rights Charter and other relevant legal frameworks, Labour Relations and Public Service Acts. Managerial and communication (both written and verbal), report writing and problem solving skills. Knowledge of six key priority areas, ability to work under pressure. A valid driver’s licence. Computer literacy.

Duties

Delegate, supervise and co-ordinate the provision of the effective and efficient patient care through adequate nursing care. Develop/establish and maintain constructive relationships with nursing and other stakeholders (i.e., interpersonal, inter-sectoral and multi-disciplinary teamwork). Participate in the analysis formulation of nursing guidelines, norms, and standards. Manage effective utilization and supervision of human, financial and material resources. In the department. Provide management support, guidance, and direction to personnel under her or his supervision towards the realization of strategic goals and objectives of the Nursing Department. Coordination of provision of effective training and research. Maintain professional growth/ethical standards and self-development. Participate in SANC CPD Programme. Comply with the Performance Management and Development System (contracting, reviews and final assessment). Demonstrate effective communication with supervisors, other health professionals and support services personnel and junior colleagues, including more complex report writing when required. Able to manage own work and that of units reporting to the post, and to ensure appropriate interventions to enhance nursing services at are/ facility level. Able to develop and maintain a nursing service environment that promotes the rights of patients, advocating and facilitating proper treatment and care.
