Requirements

An appropriate National Diploma in Environmental Health / Public Health or equivalent qualification that allows registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as an Independent Environmental Health Practitioner (2026). Current registration with the HPCSA as an Independent Environmental Health Practitioner. A valid driver's licence. Computer literacy. Good verbal and written communication skills. Sound knowledge of communicable disease control, environmental health legislation and public health programmes. Ability to supervise and coordinate field teams, work independently and under pressure, and travel extensively within the province. Experience in malaria control, disease surveillance, outbreak response, vector control, entomology or health promotion will be an added advantage.

Duties

Coordinate and supervise malaria programme field teams responsible for disease surveillance, vector control, entomological surveillance, and malaria case management and health promotion activities. Plan, implement, monitor and evaluate malaria elimination interventions in accordance with National and Provincial policies, guidelines and operational plans. Coordinate and supervise Indoor Residual Spraying (IRS) operations, including planning, implementation, and quality assurance and reporting. Coordinate malaria disease surveillance activities, including case notification, case investigation, case classification, reactive case detection, foci investigation and outbreak response. Participate in community-based malaria screening, testing and treatment activities in accordance with approved malaria case management guidelines and standing operating procedures. Support active case detection, household screening and follow-up of malaria cases to interrupt local transmission. Coordinate entomological surveillance activities, including vector monitoring, mosquito collections, insecticide resistance surveillance and environmental assessments. Coordinate and implement malaria health promotion, community mobilisation and behaviour change communication activities. Supervise malaria programme personnel, monitor performance and provide technical guidance and mentorship. Coordinate procurement planning, stock management and distribution of malaria programme commodities. Ensure proper asset management, inventory control and maintenance of programme equipment. Monitor programme performance through routine data collection, data quality assurance, analysis and reporting using approved malaria information systems. Participate in operational planning, micro-planning, monitoring and evaluation, operational research and continuous quality improvement initiatives. Perform any other duties delegated by the supervisor.
