If a PEP or KFC vacancy sent you to JOBJACK, or an app asked for your ID number, it is fair to stop and check before you hand it over. Here is what JOBJACK is, who actually hires on it, and where the real risks are.
What JOBJACK Is
JOBJACK (jobjack.co.za) is a recruitment system that employers with many branches use to hire store staff: cashiers, merchandisers, crew, packers and similar roles. For employers it is paid software. For job seekers it is a free place to keep one profile and apply to several employers from a phone.
JOBJACK says more than 90 employers use it to hire across more than 5,000 sites in South Africa, and that over 5.5 million job seekers use it. Those are its own figures, but the employers are easy to confirm: see below.
Who Hires Through JOBJACK
- PEP South Africa has a hiring page on JOBJACK, which is why "jobjack pep application" is such a common search
- KFC franchisees, such as Kwa-Pele Foods, which runs more than 60 KFC restaurants and has a published case study with JOBJACK. KFC's own vacancies are on its KFC Careers site; see how to apply at KFC
- Smollan, the merchandising company, and FPG Foods, both in JOBJACK's case studies
Not every retailer uses it. Shoprite, Checkers and Usave hire through their own WhatsApp line and apply.shoprite.jobs, Pick n Pay through its own Workday portal, and Boxer through boxer.erecruit.co. A "Shoprite job on JOBJACK" is worth a second look.
How to Apply on JOBJACK
- Go to jobjack.co.za and choose Job Seekers. Type the address yourself rather than tapping a link from a message
- Create your account with your ID or passport number
- Complete your profile. It becomes the online CV employers see
- Find jobs near you and apply from your phone
- Complete any assessment the employer asks for. JOBJACK's ranking, which it calls JobFIT, uses short behavioural assessments, and you can retake them
Asking for your ID number is normal on a real recruitment platform: employers need it to verify you. What matters is where you type it. On jobjack.co.za or app.jobjack.co.za it is fine; in a WhatsApp chat with a stranger claiming to be from JOBJACK it is not.
What Is Free and What Costs Money
| On JOBJACK | Cost to you |
|---|---|
| Registering and building your profile | Free |
| Applying for jobs | Free |
| Assessments employers ask for | Free |
| Career Coach courses | Some free, some paid. Optional |
| Funeral cover and other offers | Optional products, not part of applying |
The optional extras are where people get confused. Buying a course or a product does not put you ahead in a job application, and nothing on JOBJACK requires it. If someone says a payment will guarantee you a job, that person is not JOBJACK.
The Scams That Use JOBJACK's Name
Because JOBJACK is trusted, its name gets borrowed. Watch for:
- A WhatsApp message from a personal number saying "JOBJACK has shortlisted you" and asking for a fee for a uniform, training or a background check
- A Facebook post with a link to a copied sign-up page that is not on jobjack.co.za
- Anyone offering to "fast-track" your JOBJACK application for money
Real JOBJACK updates come through the platform: application sent, interview request, and so on. Log in yourself to check rather than trusting a message.
Common Questions
Is JOBJACK legit or a scam?
JOBJACK is legit. It is a South African hiring platform for store-level jobs in retail, fast food and merchandising, and real employers recruit on it, including PEP, KFC franchisees and Smollan. Creating a profile and applying for jobs is free. The risk is not JOBJACK itself but people who use its name on WhatsApp or Facebook to ask for money.
Do I have to pay to use JOBJACK?
No. Finding and applying for jobs on JOBJACK is free. JOBJACK does sell some optional extras, such as paid courses on its Career Coach, alongside free ones. You do not need to buy anything to apply for a job, and if anyone tells you a payment will get you hired, treat it as a scam.
How do I register on JOBJACK?
Go to jobjack.co.za, choose Job Seekers, and create your account with your ID or passport number. Complete your profile, which becomes the online CV employers see, then find jobs near you and apply from your phone.
Is the PEP application on JOBJACK real?
Yes. PEP South Africa has a hiring page on JOBJACK, at app.jobjack.co.za. Applying there is free. PEP also lists vacancies through the careers links on pepkor.co.za and takes CVs in store.
Why do I have to do an assessment on JOBJACK?
Employers on JOBJACK rank applicants partly on short behavioural assessments, which JOBJACK calls JobFIT. They are part of the normal application, they are free, and the platform lets you retake them. An assessment that you are asked to pay for is not JOBJACK's.
